Child Support Guidelines
Nebraska has created a set of strict child support guidelines. These guidelines are based on a combination of each parent's earning as applied to a predetermined formula. To get an idea of what the child support may look like in your case, you can complete the child support "Worksheet", which is included with the child support guidelines. Child custody and visitation agreements are also factors in the equation.
Issues like child support cannot be finalized until each parent has attended a parenting education course. These courses help you learn what it is like to be a divorced parent. Pursuant to the latest Nebraska Parenting Act, effective January 1, 2008, all parents must attend a basic level parenting education course.
Modification of Child Support
No child support order is final. The plan can be altered due to any substantial change in circumstances including an increase or decrease in the income of a parent, or the change in a parent's health insurance benefits.
